There is this well-known debate, especially across social media, of what's best, a social media marketer or a social media manager. At the end of the day, this depends on your business and your business goals. Some may suit one more than the other. However, as a marketer, I would always be bias for the marketer. Here's why...
Let’s play a quick game of “Who Would You Hire?”
Candidate A:– Knows how to schedule posts– Can whip up a Canva graphic in 10 minutes– Replies to every “🔥” comment with a “Thanks, bestie!”– Keeps the feed looking pretty
Candidate B:– Writes posts that actually convert– Tracks click-through rates like a hawk– Builds funnels, launches campaigns, and understands why things work– Turns followers into customers
Spoiler: Candidate B is a marketer. Candidate A? That’s a manager. And the difference is more than just job titles — it’s mindset.

Look, I love social media managers. They keep the trains running. But if your social strategy is just “post pretty things and hope,” you’re not marketing — you’re decorating.
🧠 A marketer is strategic. A marketer chases impact, not just impressions. A marketer builds systems that scale, not just feeds that look nice.
A marketer asks: “What’s the goal of this post? “Where does this lead the audience? “How are we moving people closer to buying?”
Meanwhile, a manager asks: “Is this post ready for Tuesday? “Does this match the grid? “Should we use the heart emoji or the sparkle one?”
Both are valuable. But only one grows your business.
So next time you’re hiring or building your team, ask yourself: Do I want someone to manage my content, or someone who can market my brand?
Because let’s be honest…
✨ Pretty is nice.
💸 Profitable is better.
